Letter from the President

Dear EWGA Members;

This year we will be celebrating 25 years for the Cleveland Chapter of EWGA, which was established in 1992.  Please join us all season as we celebrate with special events and activities.

After a pretty mild winter so far, the calendar says less than 4 weeks to the official start of Spring.  For a second year we will be holding a Swing into Spring event at Bunker Hill in March and we encourage you to bring a friend and tune up your swing.  Look for all the details in an email blast that will be sent shortly and posted on the website.

The EWGA board is busy developing an amazing schedule of events for the golf season.   Our continued goal is to expand our membership and build an even stronger EWGA organization.  Some of the exciting events planned for 2017 include the season Kick-off event on April 19th with league play starting the week of April 24th.    The complete schedule of events is on the website, so start marking your calendar with all the dates.  Help us celebrate the 25 year anniversary all year long!

I look forward to seeing everyone at Kick-off!

SOUTH
DEFEATS THE NORTH IN COURSE CHALLENGE

Because of the make-up of participating teams, we rearranged the tournament to South vs. North on Saturday at Valleaire Golf Club. The 8 golfers from the “South” courses (Briarwood, Sleepy Hollow, Grantwood) grabbed the Course Challenge title. The South team consisted of Aly Ales/Jen Moissis (Grantwood); Rosanne Fiorilli/Terry Baxter (Grantwood); Kathy Tomaswick/Lisa Bizjak (Briarwood); and Anne Rosenthal/Susan Curtis (Briarwood). A total of 18 golfers completed.

The format for play was two-person teams. The first 9 holes was best ball format in which both players played their own ball and used the lower score. The second 9 holes was a scramble. After play on the course, the golfers had a putting contest from 10 ft, 20 ft and 30 ft.

The South golfers pulled out the win by going 1-2-3 in the team score and 2-3-6 in the chipping contest portion of the Challenge. For the golf portion, the Tomaswick/Bizjak, Ales/Moissis and Rosenthal/Curtis went 1-2-3. Aly Ales and Jen Moissis were second and third in the putting contest. Each of the member of the South team received an $18 card from Dick’s.

Other award winners were:

Aly Ales
and Jen Moissis – low gross team with 74.

and Lisa Bizjak – low net team with 59.

CHAUTAUQUA WEEKEND

6 Cleveland EWGA members joined members of the Rochester and Syracuse Chapters to play Peak 'n Peak on Friday, June 2.  On Saturday a total of 9 from Cleveland  played Chautauqua, NY with the other chapters followed by a great dinner with old and new friends.  There were fun times including 8 women in one cabin with 1 bathroom and the water heater failed - but what happens in Chautauqua stays in Chautauqua!  Sunday got rained out in NY but 8 of the remaining Cleveland gals stopped and played 18 at Madison CC.  It was a fun weekend of golf and good friends.

GIRLS GOT SWING

NINE (+9) AND WINE

Great afternoon of golf at Powderhorn Golf Course in Madison, Ohio on May 20. The course was challenging, and ten fantastic ladies had a wonderful afternoon of golf,  food and wine!  It started out a bit chilly but warmed up (layers were removed during the round!) and it was a beautiful day.   The Grand River Winery in Madison was a perfect after golf spot to relax and discuss the round and the food and atmosphere was great!  Chapter members Lisa Bizjak, Leigh Murray, Cindy Darwal, Terry Baxter, Gwen Virag, Debbie Kandel, Nancy Oat, Kate Vesdos, Donna Schreiber and Susan Curtis enjoyed the day.

KICK-OFF

Kick-Off for the 2017 season and 25th Anniversary year for EWGA Cleveland was held at Sleepy Hollow GC on April 19.  Despite the weather which prevented warm ups on the driving range, the lively group of about 30 members learned about the upcoming season, golf leagues, events. a contest celebrating 25 years and what to look for when purchasing golf clubs presented by John Fiander, Sleepy Hollow Golf Pro.  A pasta buffet and great raffle prizes added to the fun.  Remember to add #EWGACleveland to your posts on social media and help spread the word about our great chapter.
